U-Joint?
« on: November 07, 2006, 10:35:48 PM »
Anyone have the same problem? My '91 with 171k clinks and clunks on accelerator lift off in slow traffic and sometimes sounds as if there is metal on metal resistance under the car. Car has new Guibo and center bearing, motor and tranny mounts. I was wondering if I need new U-Joints and if so, is it worth it to just get a whole new drive shaft? Could it be a throw out bearing instead? Much appreciated, Thanks

I'm thinking maybe it is worn rear subframe mount bushings.

If it is the driveshaft, my understanding is most driveshaft shops will not do them.

In other words, you will probably have to buy a new one.

The alternative, if you plan on keeping the car for another 100k, is to pay a drioveshaft shop to swap the yoke/u-joint to a more serviceable piece.
