What are some measures I could take to increase my chances of passing? Would running a fuel delivery cleaner, specifically BG44K help? Is it necessary to replace the fuel filter before or after the application? Any effects on the engine oil (about 2k on it)?

Also, new air filter, O2 sensor (any leads on this?) , plugs (what are some indication these need to be replaced?)

Well, FWIW, I would say you are on the right track - make sure everything is in tip-top condition. BG44K can be run without changing the oil - in fact, if you need to change the oil after running something through the fuel tank, I'd say you have larger issues than the cleanliness of the injectors anyway!

As for the plugs, just pull them and check the condition. If the electrodes are worn, or they are fouled, I would certainly replace them.

also, drive your car around for a while before bringing it in to get smogged. i asked the tech that did my smog if cars pass easier when they are hot and he agreed. he even told me to drive around the neighborhood for a minute while he set up for the test.

I need to take it to a test only center which means that they will probably let the engine cool before they begin the test, we'll see.
