I've tried Seafoam, Lucas Valve Treatment and I've currently got Marvel in the sump, but my valve tick isn't going away.

Do I need to get the BMW tool to compress the valves or is there a different way to unbolt the cams from the head to get at the lifters. Any advice would be appreciated.

Of course the bmw tool is the best option. If you can't have it, you have another tool: patience. You must unbolt the cams by turning each bolt 1/4 turn on time with patience and a lot of care. They can EASILY break.

I'd get the manual and work in reverse of tightening sequence.

Start torquing around the depressed lifters. The rear lobes are down at TDC. Work from there, keeping even depression and threads showing on the studs. . Moving around as you go. MM
