Hi everybody I know this is probably a stupid question but im new to this. I have an aftermarket exhaust from a friend of mine he had it on an acura integra. He got a different car so he gave the exhaust to me. Its still pretty new, he didnt use it that long and it seems to be in great condition. Its a pretty big heavy muffler. I have no idea what brand it is. What im trying to ask here is that if i wanted to get it welded to my 91 318is would it fit? Does the e30 have only certain size performance mufflers that can fit?
Thanks to anybody who helps!

You can throw any muffler on there that will physically fit under the car.  Just get it hung and welded properly and you won't have a problem.

If it sounded good on the acura it will probably sound good on the m42 motor as they are probably both 4 cylinders and of similar displacement.

As long as it's not a fart can, I don't think you will have a problem - with the fitting or fellow e30 owners

And tell the guys at the exhaust shop to NOT use the stock muffler hangers/straps. Jesus they piss me off. It's better to pay a little more and have them weld up a couple of 1/4 inch round stock to the muffler. The straps have a tendency to rust and corrode to the point where it starts to fall apart. Before it falls completely apart, it will rattle like crazy. Just avoid the problem entirely by having them bend some rods that will fit and hang in the stock locations and then weld them to the muffler.

Just my two cents.
