Hiccup upon coming to a stop
« on: June 08, 2009, 03:35:53 PM »
So, new to the club, just picked up a 91 318i m42 and loving it so far. One thing that has threw me off a little is after downshifting to a stop the idle will drop to almost 500rpm, stumble and then bounce back up to 900rpm. It only does it once until I take off again, come to another stop and it will do it again. Puzzles me a little. Any thoughts on where I should start? I should also mention it is a 5 speed

You have a little idle control valve that causes trouble...it's attached to a hose off the rear of the upper intake manifold.  Do a search for 'ICV', you'll find all sorts of fun...

Welcome to the board, these cars are a blast to drive!  They're even pretty easy to take care of.

Vacuum hoses are rather popular points of funky idle :)
