vibrations (trans tunnel)
« on: April 27, 2009, 03:15:34 AM »
hey guys i just started noticing this.  there is excessive vibrations or shutters when driving the car.  it feels and sounds like its coming from underneath the area behind the hand brake (rear trans tunnel?).  also today while i was merging on the highway i felt the car slip in gear.
i haven't had the opportunity to go underneath to take a look.  what do you guys think it is?  worn out guibo?  differential messing up?  or other stuff?  let me know if what you guys think.

things that are replaced control arms, m3 offset control arm bushings, clutch and throwout bearing. i haven't had the chance to switch out some bushings for the rear yet.  could this be the new offset bushings causing this?

no,  its probably your center support bearing.  when it tears then it lets your driveshaft spin out of its normal centered track causing a thumping sound and feeling under the tranny tunnel.

when you replace it,  mark you driveshaft before you split it.  if you do not put hte shaft back together exactly the same (because it is a balanced two piece shaft)  your pretty much going to have to replace it or have a shop rebalance it for you.  just take a sribe ir a punch and put some marks on both sides so you put the splines together the same.

i do this:

on one side and this  .

on the other side between the two dots so i know when i put it together the single punch mark goes between the other two.
