So, I finally got off my ass and took my driveline in to get rebuilt today. I showed the guys at the shop my disintegrated guibo and they were amazed at the damage. They think the guibo may have been defective from the get go. I don't know who the manufacturer was, but it was pretty flimsey.

They stocked the guibo I need at the shop. He pulled a Febi guibo off the shelf and showed it to me. The two side by side, no comparison. Way harder rubber material and much nicer looking. It also had a big "Made in Germany" stamped on the side, which was comforting. I'm not sure what 3rd world country mine was manufactured in.

The other guy looked at my thrashed guibo and said "That's one of them cheap import guibos. Throw that piece of junk in the trash." I, of course, asked them to keep it for me so I can dig through my pile of reciepts and figure out who I got it from and send it back to them.

So, Febi is the ONLY guibo for me!!!

....as Sam (febi guibo) is eyeing me nervously. :cool:

haha... oh man... I'm dying laughing ...I also glad you are getting your car sorted out.

when i first got my car and was going through the list of stuff i was going to replace, i saw a list of stuff someplace that said 'Febi Guibo' and I was like, "wtf is a Febi Guibo???" I sort of imagined a danny devito type italian mob boss...

looking back, maybe I should have picked 'Sachs Clutch' as a screen name --that sounds more like a steve mcqueen type private detective...

I think its some model of alfa romeo that has like, 3 guibos in the driveline... some engineer must have made a deal with la cosa nostra or something...

We can only hope. I've been through the seven rings of hell with this f'ing car. I mean, I really love the 318, but it's been a basketcase of issues and I really want something I can actually drive. Plus, if I'd have known I was going to spend an amount equal to the GNP of some 3rd world nations on it, I'd have bought something newer, nicer and faster.

Hopefully, I'm not too far away now. Put in the rebuilt prop shaft this weekend, replace both rear half-shafts next week, bleed the brakes again, and fix the binding in the front steering... then (with any luck at all), I'll be in good shape.

I don't want to say that too loud though...

Yeah, Febi Guibo is a gangsta name. Funny thing, I worked for an investment firm in Wisconsin and I used to call on a trader in New York named Tony Guido. I used to just laugh like hell about it because you can't pick a name more New York than "Tony Guido".

Fortunately, everyone I talked to wasn't affected by the terrorist attacks of September 11th. But those buildings were full of trading floors with people just like Tony.

I think I'm going to start a 80's hair metal band - I will be the frontman, lead guitar, and they will know me as Lenny Lemforder.
I'll tour the country with Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine, and Steve Vai...:cool:
