E30 intake manifold onto e36 318
« on: December 31, 2007, 06:03:20 PM »
The e30 manifold seems to be a better flowing manifold than the e36 318 manifold, many people have told me that it would not clear the hood(e30 manifold is slightly taller), but after putting my flashlight(1 1/4 diameter round head) on top of my current manifold and closing the hood, there seems to be plenty of room.
Well, let you know how it goes

There are a couple of e36s with it fitted, you need to remove the hood insulator thing, and remove engine wire plastic cover at the rear of engine and it should fit.
I have one manifold too, but never tried because I broke it in parts trying to make some experiments:D

Yeah, it seems...

There was a bit of a fight here about this maybe a month ago. BMW's own training material shows E36 M42 to have better low-mid AND also top end power which I attribute mostly to better intake design. E30 intake is not very good at low end but it seems that it is in no way better than E36 intake in top either, maybe even contrary

So the swap has questionable value in my opinion. But it would be very interesting to hear someoneäs opinion after the swap :)

with individual and even length runners, the e30 intake at least looks better than the strange e36 one. i dont know if it really has an impact on powerband although there is surely a good reason why bmw decided to change it.

e36 intake is FAR BETTER than e30's. its all about DISA control long runners for low-mid torque and short runners for high rpm power

thats why e30's have 136hp and e36 140hp

e30 intake its better only for turbo setup's

Excuse me for sounding like a noob as I am new to the M42 scene but would it be possible to fit the E36 DISA manifold onto an E30 318iS?

sure.
you will need -
E36 intake mani.
DISA system and a DME \ ECU to support all that.
