'92 318is runs fine but loud

trying to figure out where to start my inlaws gave me a '92 318is they were driving it daily but it is so loud as if there is no exhaust on there, however he had changed some things out on it and was trying to make it quiet. any ideas where to start, i dont think there is anything cut out or any exhaust leaks at all if i remember correctly. but need to get this going pretty soon. thanks

got to be an exsaust leak

if you cant find it, run it to an exsaust shop
