While the M42 has it's problems, a MB equiv (190E) is just as problematic, if not more.
Steer clear from those

While I am a fan of the 190e, I was thinking something more along the lines of a 300td, which, as James May put it, can be mended with a brick and some shoestring. :p

And you can run it off recycled veg oil.

speaking of a 190e and 300d, i picked a very clean 190e up months ago that wasn't running right for $500 and still haven't been able to get it to run right, it's going to be a nice car once i get it running right (it has a terrible misfire on all cylinders), and my dad recently purchased a very clean 300d which we thing now had a blown head gasket or a cracked head.

I've been courting a good looking 190e for a whopping $400... seems to be in great shape save for the bonnet paint. Wanted to make a rally car out of it, but the lack of 5 speed swaps has since caused me to turn my attention to an E30 rally build.

Being given a car for free. Needs an M20 head, but otherwise the drivetrain and suspension are great. Ultimately, I want to swap in an M42 with boost, putting it's output on par with an S14.
