Part idenification
« on: December 06, 2008, 11:22:18 AM »
Ok guys I’m new to the BMW. But I am mechanically inclined. But for the life of me I have not been able to identify a part. I got A 1991 318 IS with the M42 engine(Of Course) from a guy for cheap because he hit a Rock going up a washed out drive way and cracked the oil pan. He said he cracked the block also but upon inspection the blocks looks ok but the piece between the block and oil pan is what is cracked does anyone know what it is call or is it really part of the block?

Thanks, Joshua

This site is extremely Helpful :D

The M42 has a two-piece oil pan - there is an upper pan and a lower pan. Sounds like the upper is cracked.

From this very site, actually.

There are some for sale, just search or browse the 'for sale' threads.
