need some help with my idle
« on: November 26, 2008, 12:44:27 PM »
alright looks like this becoming a polular topic here on this board but yet im not having luck figuring out whats wrong with mine...

a little info on the car for starters its a 1995 318i sedan m42 320,XXXmiles, just cleaned upper and lower manifolds, all new gaskets associated with, cleaned icv (opens fine when tested), cleaned maf, new wires, plugs, changed cool and and therm gasket, changed oil filter gasket housing and oring, changed injector orings, replaced cooland tube all vacume lines etc....

all right so the car now starts up wants to idle a little high just over 1k as of the moment runs a whole lot better now under acceleration than it did before i replaced all of this only probably have about 10miles on it but all the same at idle now the engine wants to surge go up to 1800 then back down 1000. ive checked for vacume leaks but not finding any. also my hearing like a tapping sound from the intake manifold, injectors are really loud (always been so since i bought the car last year). i still have to deleate the heater plate just havnt gotten to it yet. but yea any idea what could be causeing this one?

thanks,
chris

How does it idle when you disconnect the ICV? (stop, disconnect, restart)

Yes, the M42 is somewhat famous for idle issues, this board could almost justify a IDLE section in the main page topic area.

when the icv or maf is disconected the idle drops and car wants to die. double checked that already too

From my experience get the vacuumed system smoked to find every single vacuumed leak, I installed all new vacuumed hoses when my m42 hit 200k and even after installing all new hoses I found three small vacuumed leaks with the smoke machine.

And then my idle was perfect after closing the throttle body to the factory setting and letting the computer relearn by disconnecting the battery.

My idle rises a little when my ICV is disconnected, if you disconnect the AFM and hit the gas, it should die :)

Try the TPS, i had the same problem and all i had to do was clean it off a little with electric degreaser and no more idle problems.
