M42 Oil Pressure

Hey guys got a problem. I am in the process of the turbo build. We took out factory oil pressure switch on filter housing and I am getting oil from there for the turbo. Tapped the oil pan for return. The problem is now I am not getting any oil pressure ?? Motor wont pressurize and oil wont goto turbo ??  Any ideas on what might be the issue ?

Have you not in effect created a pressurized crankcase?

So did you remove and tap the lower pan for the return?

I ask because I am trying to see if you removed the upper pan and possibly disturbed the gasket and are not making a seal and essentually the oil pump is sucking air.

Also what size line are you using to feed the turbo? Are you running a restrictor in it?

Have you checked the output line to the turbo for pressure?

Did you fill the crankcase with oil?

Is this engine rebuilt or bone stock?

Well a advisement regarding tapping the lower pan. If the lower pan is full of oil during normal operation, the turbo drain will not drain and will back up and get past the turbo seals and start burning oil. Typically you want to install your drain at the highest point possible in the pan. Something to think about and research.

If you had the lower oil pan off for a long length of time its possible all the oil drained out of the system and pump. Right now its cavitation and can't pull oil back up into the pump. You might have to pull the pan and remove the pickup and using a hand pump, force oil up into the pump, or an old trick is to pack a little grease into the pickup tube, this will force a positive vacuum and will pull the grease through with oil following right behind it.
