Anyone know of a good write up for E-brakes??

I have the pads, and the spring set, and the two cables. I just don't know what the procedure is, and I lost my manual. I can't find it anywhere, and I need to get this done, because I want to change the rotors and pads at the same time.

Any info would be great.

Bear in mind these are for the E36, which is almost, if not, exactly the same procedure as the E30 job.

Well it's been a while, and I have finally gotten around to changing the cables.

They are supposed to just slide out, but they don't. I managed to get the one end out of the wheel side, but the other end is tucked right up near diff housing.

I spent the last 4-5 hours wrestling with this one end. There is a brake line running pretty close to it, so I cannot use heat.

I am just wondering how people have dealt with this problem.

LOTS of PB Blaster, a vise-grip wrench, and a ton of swearing.

And a liberal dose of antisieze on the new ones, which the factory seems to have neglected.

Good luck with that. It's a pain.

I am gonna try it again this weekend.

I hurt my back at work, so car work has stopped. But the tubes were blasted with release-all from the interior side, and hit hard with PB Blaster from the outside.

I hope it does something...

I just removed both my old ones.  I chickened out on using heat, as the fuel tank is real close in proximity.  

I went up to the base of the e-brake handle and cut off the ends that hook into the lever (used a Dremel) and then locked a pair of Vise Grip pliers onto the cables underneath near where the cables exit the metal tubes and twisted a few times counter-clockwise, like I was unscrewing them, and they came out real easy.  I was ecstatic, as I was unsure how it was going to go.

I have the diff, axle carrier and axles removed, so maybe I have more room than you, and I am also replacing the brake lines with stainless ones in the same area.

Only thing I don't know for sure yet is how I'm going to get the new cables in.  I assume I feed them in from the e-brake lever area.  I'll report back on that one.

Your new E-brake cables should come as a complete unit. They are in all actuality the easiest E-brakes to install. They are just a complete pain in the ass to remove...

Did you get your new set yet??

There should be a section the bends, but is still kinda stiff. That part is essentially the only part that sees outside air. and the rest just feeds through those tubes.

Tommorrow is supposed to piss rain, and I'll be hung over, so I think the E-brake cables are still gonna be a b!tch for me. (I have to work ouside in an open parking lot because my driveway is gravel, and sloped)
