Cooling System Problem
« on: September 18, 2008, 12:25:12 PM »
Shortly after leaving this morning for work, I noticed the temp guage begin to rise past its normal position (just a tick past half way).  Using the heater to draw some of the heat helped drop the temp a little and for a little bit but the temp started increasing again.

I turned it around and parked it at home.  I noticed that the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the thermostat housing was hot but the return hose from the thermostat housing to the lower right side of the radiator was cool.  The engine fan is turning but i guess the internals to the water pump could be shot.

From my understanding, the return hose will stay cool until the thermostat opens and allows the coolant to flow back to the radiator and therefore dagnose this as a thermostat failure.  I was in a suit and had to get to work so that is the extent of my trouble shooting.

My plan is to first replace the thermostat so on that point, what are the pros/cons of using the 88 degree or 92 degree thermostat?  I think 88 deg is stock no?

Cheers...Stephen

gas milage, stick with the 92. it wont be significant but a hotter engine is a more efficient engine.
