Author Topic: Throttle Heater plate delete - Stripped mouunting bolt (Read 2427 times)

Deleted my heater plates from the throttle body, great mod by the way.

when i took the lower right hand nut off, it got the end of the bolt and the bolt came out of the upper intake manifold. Didn't think much of it until remounting the throttle body. Go to do it up and it's just spinning in the manifold. Must of stripped the thread in the manifold.

So what is the manifold made of? can i weld this mounting bolt still? anyone else have any other ideas to tighten it up?

I think the manifold is made of aluminium.

hela-coils. There are a number of brand names. The kit will include a tap, insertion tool and stainless steel spiral. In aluminum you just tap the hole, insert the coil and you are done. When you ask for them at an auto parts store or hardware store you will probably get a lot of blank stares but most of them do carry them.

The torque specs for bolts on this engine are very low.

Another solution would be to make the hole all the way through to the inside of the manifold, since you have deleted the heater plate, your stud is long enough, so put a self locking nut( I don�t know how you guys call this nut on the states...)on the inside of the manifold, put some double compund(stuff that suplements aluminum, here in Spain the name is Araldite, or Nural 27) so the stud seals and sticks to the manifold,let it dry for 2-3 hours, and then just like normal, put your throttle body, nuts, and you�re done!!
You really wouldn�t need the nut on the inside using the stuff I�m talikng about, it�s just for safety.
