check your driveshaft. look at the flex disc up at the front by the transmission its easily checked without dropping anything out. I'd also turn the driveshaft and look for play.. my guess is its most likely your center support bearing.

I guess center bearing would be more of a thump thump (still should be checked though).. Rattle rattle is probably exhaust hangers or the shield itself..

My E36 developed recently very noisy resonance at high revs, very audible even with helmet on. There was also a rattle on idle.

I think the reason was broken exhaust support that is located at the end of gearbox. That allowed cat to vibrate and the outer aluminium shell of cat was getting loose and it rattled like heck!

It's definitely the exhaust hanger right next to the driveshaft.  Mine did the exact same thing down to the revs you are describing.  After warming up it would go away totally.

When you have bass you tend to find all of the little raddle's. Sometimes you cant hear the rattles in the car but from outside they are very clear.

And AcSchnitzer318is your sig is sick. Love the look.

I'm lifting mine up today to look for an exhaust leak that's buggin the hell out of me.  Hopefully I find it as easily as you found yours.

Thanks Kenika65... much appreciated.  I've put a lot of work into her since I picked her up in February.  I'll make a thread in the members section eventually.  Wait I might have one already.  Try a search.  If I do I'll update it with current pics.
