Optima Red Top
« on: August 26, 2008, 11:26:32 AM »
I just put one in my car and holy shit did it transform everything. I was powering my 600w amp off what i believe may have been my original battery. I doubt a battery could have lasted 17 years so i assume the PO had it replaced at BMW because it was a completely plain black battery. I believe its possible it was the same battery my car came with in 1991.

So after cleaning up my battery tray and putting the red top in, it feels like my car starts 10x as good, idles twice as good. Has more HP, stereo sounds better. My engine seems quieter, according to the g/f. I never thought a battery would be
 my best upgrade yet

Red? Is there another model name other than that? Its a top post. Fit nicely had to pull my ground cable a little to reach the top since its a bit taller but it fits snug

Yellow tops, and red tops.

There may be a marine style aswell.

The offroad crowd prefer the yellow tops for there deep cycling capabilities. Winches will drain a battery faster then you'd think.

I guess I should have asked "Group Number" (Which determines size). There are no listings for Optima batteries for our cars (Ours would take #48).

I guess I could always use a tape measure....lol
I just know it is a little snug in the battery well area..

Ya mine barely fit in the tray, it sat perfectly snug. It was alot taller than my old battery so i had to stretch the ground cable a little bit but it didn't take any force.. i can look at the battery for the other # or w/e or maybe i can do the tape measure idea

I got a yellow top about 2 weeks ago, I really like it.  The yellows are lighter than the reds, but with less cold cranking amps.  The blue ones are the marine ones.

My idle is still searching but we are talking 800-950 instead of 900-1500 (seems to do it less now, mostly when i first start the car). I feel that the battery helped everything. I was told i had a weak alternator but i think the alternator is fine because i'm not having any charging issues. And this red top is the best thing ever.. my brother had his for 10 years across 4 cars before it finally died... than he took it to "GI Joe's" and they gave him a brand new one without a receipt. A worthy investment no matter if you only are keeping the car to fix up and sell... pull it out and put it in the next toy.
