On cold mornings i have to crank my motor over for about 3 or 4 seconds before it starts. My 1974 2002 didn't take that long. so... is this normal? it's more of an annoyance than anything else. especially when I'm sitting there turning my engine over and over and over in front of a bunch of riced out civics.

BTW my car has 170k, all of my vacuum lines have been replaced. new plugs, new battery.

How good are your spark plugs, ignition coils and fuel pump? Also check you crank and cam sensors? Over time the coils, leads, and various sensors build up too great a resistance and this causes incorrect signals to be sent causing poor performance and difficult starting.

Also once it fires, does it run well?

One other thing to check is to see if the fuel rail is holding pressure when the engine is turned off. If it isn't it adds to the start up time. Possible causes are the check valve at the fuel tank, leaky injector, or bad fuel pressure regulator.
