New to the crew
« on: June 24, 2008, 01:13:19 PM »
Hello to all,
I am very new to this forum.  I am in process of building a '89 325i with a '93? m42.  Lots of various mods being incorporated as well.  I will be building it to run in what I beleive will be F-mod in the BMWCCA.  After some extensive floor rot repair I am assembling the motor and after veiwing this site for only a short time I have found it quite informative.  Lots of little bits of info and link to technical data.
BTW.  m42 parts are sooo inexpensive!!
I love it! :D
Ok, back to the business at hand.
The car has a pretty descent cage.  Fiberglass m3 wide body fender and not a whole lot else at this point!  More to come.
I am just introducing myself and looking forward to catching more information as it comes along on this site.
I hope I do this next part right:o

I probably didn't...  apologies for myself and lack of forum knowledge.
Either way.  I hope all goes well in the future on this site.
Cheers

Thanks for the welcome,
I plan on keeping the build very inexpensive as funds are quite low.  Probably lower than they should be!
I have a well built head with valve work, upgraded springs, cams, porting,  etc.  New ecu with tuned upgrade chip.  I think I have 24# injectors for it as well??  So the top end is in wonderful condition.  I would like "COP".  I can easily get my hands on the coils I just need to fab up the adapter.
As for the lower end...  A rod bearing failed and caused the crank to weld itself to the rod.  I have another complete engine for doner parts.  Excellent block and crank!  Probably used only a few times before he overheated it due to radiator issues and gave up on the project.  I do not need the head at this point so I am not to concerned about it's condition.
I have a couple sets of super sprint headers to use and pending sound restrictions at certain tracks I would like as little exhaust as possible, while still keeping backpressure to the motor.  Hopefully side exit exhaust. If I can get a fuel cell to mount in the trunk for cheap.  We'll see.
I am going to end up keeping most of the lower end stock as I can not put too much money into it and I can't stroke it because it will bump me up another class.  Same for the "FI".  So little things are on my list.  Polished everything, crank scraper, I'll make my own aluminum box air intake for good flow.  Whatever little trick I can find.

Here is the rod bearing.:(

and some floor shots

Stupid e30's:rolleyes:
ps.  .035 wire and sheetmetal do not mix!:)

RIGHT!!

I figure I only have a handful of track days under by belt and I should probably start with a farily light not overly powerful platform before I get in over my head.

The rear fenders should gain me about 2" of space, but unfortunetely they are glass over steel.  So I might have to do some slight tinwork to get tire clearance for the first event.  I have to get the car ready for Mt. Tremblant in August, so after that is the glen in Sept.  I think I will do more perminant slicin and dicin at that time!  Probably shed a good 20 -30 lbs in the process.

Looks like a nice project. Thats a pretty awesome euro e28 you've got there; is it authentic or converted?

I'm not sure if it is legal in F-mod, but I would consider a lightweight flywheel. With that, a sorted M42 isn't a whole lot slower than an M20, it just has less torque.

What's the plan for suspension?

The e28 is not a true euro.  poop...  It however does have the euro m30b34 10.5cr!  Fun to rip around town in.

I already have the flywheel in hand I just received it the other day.
Suspension..  I have coilover struts and the rear shocks being rebuilt at Bilstein right now.

The flywheel is not legal in prepared, but mod it is fine.

I have changed the location of this thread to below.

I could not figure out how to movethis thread to another catagory, so I started another.  This thread could be deleted and I would not be upset.
