this pretty much happened to me.  Bought my m42 from a guy on CL.  He advertised at $3600 and i walked away with $510.  Good for me, right?  

It seemed to run fine but i need it to the shop..........$3k later.

Bottom line - pay more to buy from an enthusiast.  The end
