Author Topic: Fuel pump priming? (Read 4042 times)

I have removed the fuel line on the fuel filter (engine side), turned the key to on position--- No fuel pressure? Shouldn't the fuel pump prime?
I turn the key to crank and there is fuel pressure?
Is this normal?

I believe that if the engine isn't turning, it won't start the fuel pump, even to prime it. The system normally maintains sufficient pressure to start without priming.

I recall hearing a buzzing noise from the fuel pump, when you turn to on? but know I don't hear it.
The car does not like to start that easy! Also when the gas pedal is pressed either at idle or under load, the engine accelerates really rough with an occasional back fire! Hmmm

Vacuum hoses only 6 months old.

mine was doing something similar but it was throwing a o2 sensor too lean code. Checked my fuel pressure and it was only 13psi

While you have the line off jump the relay and see if the pump pumps.If not then check at the pump for 12 volts with the key in the on position.If you have 12 volts and the pump is not working then your pump is probably faulty.

I just found out that the fuel pressure is actually normal 40psi.......

I am still having the same problem! Argg

The car starts but when I rev the engine at idle or under load, the car sounds like it is missing or something and no power!
The strangest thing is, the check engine light does not come on at all and there are no codes???

Any suggestions where to go next?

Tune up? Check the condition of your spark plug wires. Make sure all your vacuum lines are connected. After i replaced all my intake hoses one of them came unplugged when i was putting the intake back on. Check the little hose going to your fuel pressure regulator. If none of that works just pull your spark plugs and look and see if its running rich or lean. Clean your ICV? My TPS was bad but i didnt really notice much of a difference after replacing it, even though it was bad but so was my fuel pump

Testing a TPS is simple just look in the E36 manual and bust our your volt meter.

Yah I don't think coils will give a code, will they? I was thinking ignition so i will check them next...
