Pistons and TB's
« on: December 03, 2007, 01:52:26 PM »
Hi all, got a question for ya'll. Im rebuilding my engine and now Im in need off new pistons. I want my engine to be quick. Ive lightend the flywheel got catcams and just ordered my dbilas TB kit.

Some dyno time is needed to make this all run effective.
But what pistons to buy:
M42 CP Forged Piston Sets, 10:1 CR #CP-FPS-S42-10 $699.95
M42 CP Forged Piston Sets, 13:1 CR #CP-FPS-S42-13 $749.95
Seems good but never heared of them

metricmechanic

Sport Forged Alusil Vented Pistons
10.0:1

$175 (each)

seems excellent but they mistakenly thought I wanted stock pistons and now they dont respond to my question if I can buy from them, really weird.

bavauto
B1251721449N MaxSil High Performance Piston Set - 84.48mm - 0.50 oversize
$439.95

Really cheap but dont know them...

So what are your experiances with these piston suppliers and which do you use??

Any input is greatly appriciated

How much did you pay for the ITB's?

jim rowe (metric mechanic) takes a couple days to days to respond by email, not really a internet guy...

his pistons are made to his design by wiseco, I have them, you can get whatever compression ratio you want pretty much and in most scenarios can be made to be non-interference pistons... eg they will never bend a valve

maxsil is sold through bavarian engine exchange... i don't know who uses them to be honest...

ITB's set me back 1400 Euros....hugh amount of money I know but its all plug 'n play and gives a really good sound, and 19Hp extra. Together with the other stuff should get very close to 180hp I hope.

I am mostly charmed by metricmechanic's pistons, hope Jim rowe will help me out. I dont want to stamp on maxsil because I really dont know them, but that price is really dead cheap!

I would call jim -- I know time zone wise it's hard you being in the EU, but he is very accessible by telephone...
