Vacuum Leak fixed! Still have buck at 4k+
« on: September 04, 2007, 07:43:49 PM »
Well i did it. I pulled the intake, cleaned the icv replaced the 4 way hose under the intake and replaced anything else that looked old. Before it wouldnt idle at all or just barely......now sounding pretty at 800. I sprayed some cleaner around all the hoses and no difference.

I thought that might fix my bucking that starts at approx 3k and anything over 4k is rough....when its not bucking over 4k it has hardly any power.

I did put in a new fuel filter. My plug wires look to be fairly old and show some cracking and i havnt checked the plugs so thats my next move.

Where is the best price on wires or should i go to COP and what is the price on that?

Any ideas on the bucking would be appreciated.  Thanks

The bucking could be the wires.  If they look old and cracked replace them.  They will probably look way worse after removal.

The best price I found on Bosch wires was EuroDepot for around $90 IIRC.
Definitely shop around for them because I got price quotes from $90-$240 for the same Bosch wires.

Good luck,Dan.

Found my problem. Vaccum leak was priority so i fixed that.....thought that vacuum leak could have been the cause of the bucking. Not So! So this morning i decided to start with the basics. The first plug looked great...slightly tan....electrode still very defined....every thing looked good and i was thinking no way this is my problem but went ahead and changed them out.  Every plug looked good and no signs of damage but that was my problem!

I have pulled plugs out of cars that had the electrodes almost gone that still ran better than this car.

I guess with only 4 cyl there is less tolerance and anything will be magnified.

BTW champions were in the car. Have no idea how many miles on them but they did look rather newish.
