URGENT HELP! whos got a engine w/ no head on it
« on: May 18, 2006, 10:30:17 PM »
I need to see pictures of the non-return valve in the block - according to Real OEM its on the Pass side center between 2 and 3

I never removed it from the block - but now that the motor is back together I am questioning whether or not it could have fallen out while getting hot tanked...

However in this picture I cant see how it could be there as its the threaded hole for the head bolt only... Is it installed on this picture? anyone know I dont ever remember seeing anything like this

Help I need to know ASAP so I can order parts if need be it

Although the check valve is listed for our cars on the ETK, on the TIS it suggests that this part is post '92 only. both engines i've been dealing with recently (my old 1.8 and newly rebuilt 2.1) don't have this part. Please take this with caution, its just my experience

Interesting - The Bentley picture shows an adjacent hole next to the bolt hole in between 2 cylinders - the ETK shows the part going down between 2 and 3 - I was also looking at your pictures earlier and every block Ive seen doesnt have the hole that the bentley has -

I gurrantee there was never anything at deck height - My only thought is it gets pushed all the way to the bottom of that bore of that passage way

My other thought is its a '92 and up manual - but it has more info about the m42 as opposed to the hayes and chiltons

So maybe your point is valid

That kind of spoils my plan on taking apart a 93 318 today to look inside at this $8.00 beast

BTW whats the TIS? im not recognizing that acronym

BMW TIS - not sure what it stands for in German, but its the BMW tech info system used by BMW dealers. there's a document (RA E30 11 Engine M42 1100 Engine, general - Doc name 'General instructions on dismantling and repairing engine block/crank drive (m42)') which details that its just post 9/92 cars with the check valve.
"A check valve with a rubber-lined spacing sleeve for the supply of oil to the cylinder head is installed in the engine block of M42 engines produced since 9.92"

Intresting. Either way, if you had it hot tanked, the rubber in the valve is no destroyed. Please garb your ankles
