doubt about chip

Excuse my ignorance. When I bought my 318Is 3 months ago, the previous ownwe did mention that he had a new chip on the car. Where exactly is the computer chip in the car, so that I can check what exactly I have?.
Sorry guys, my knowledge of these cars is very limited.

The ECU is located inside the glove box behind the plastic cover that the glove box light is mounted too.  Take that of by undoing the two screws in the front and twisting the to plastic pins at the back.  After that remove the 4 nuts the secure the ecu to the dash and drop it down from its location.  From there, its pretty easy.
