OK, so I have no pics right now, but...

I took the bumper and valance off the parts car today, and in the process I noticed that the AC compressor had an idler pulley just below it!

Mine does not have this.  However, I suspect that my AC compressor is not original (based on the double set of worm clamps on the low pressure side hose!) so I don't know how it is supposed to be set up.

My question: Does everyone else have an idler pulley below the AC compressor?

Yes to the idler pulley. The bracket has a bolt adjustment for the belt tension. It's like the second picture in realoem.com  for a 1991 318is.

Hmm.  Maybe I need to investigate this a little more. Crap, I might need to swipe that compressor and pulley off the parts car engine...

I wonder why it was removed from mine?
