Sweet, there's a lot of guys from m42club in the Outback.

Hey Pete, something's been bothering me, why do some Australians refer to wheels as Mags?

(And just for the record I'd have no patience in cleaning my car!!)

Mag when referred to as an alloy wheel I guess refers to Magnesium as a word in particular.  I personally use alloy wheel (as the material used in making them would suggest and also because of the fact that I don't think alloys should be called mags just as a personal preference).
