Is there any diference?

Is it posible to fit E36 M42 camshaft to E30 M42 engine?
E30 318is M42
E36 318is M44

I'm fairly sure they are the same, but why would you want to do that?

thought I heard they weren't compatible? are you talking the e36 m42 or e36 m44 cams? im pretty sure the m44 wont work but, I'm no sure about the e36 m42...

I need custom set of camshafts, it is not so easy to get them ftom M42 E30 eng. We have few companies which can weld on some steel and after they can make custom profile camshaft.
E30 318is M42
E36 318is M44

M42 but from E36

sry should have read your post more thoroughly but it looks like it should work because it doesn't look like any of the aftermarket suppliers of cams differentiate the different years of m42 engines
