Cam cover modifications

Just installed an M42 in my 1602 and will be running ITB's with open stacks and DTA management.  I'm trying to make it look a bit more period correct and have been looking at possibly modifying the cam cover.  I'm wondering what other people have done?  Smoothed? M Power / s14 replica?
