Strange stalling problem - warm start
« on: August 08, 2019, 12:30:23 PM »
just started a couple weeks ago, my car will die after I start it after it's been running for a bit (running in to the store), I have to keep a little bit of throttle when it's idling or it will stall out. However after driving for like 5 minutes, the stalling is gone when I come to a stoplight or stuck in traffic. It also never stalls out after first starting it in the morning. I'm gonna go and smoke test it today after work for vac leaks and spray down the ICV with some throttle cleaner, but if those aren't it, any ideas?

Weird, keep us posted on anything you find. I have been having a little of the opposite...idle gets unstable about 2 minutes after a cold start and on the occasional warm-start. It needs me to blip the throttle once or twice, and then is fine for the remainder of the run.

I blasted the icv with some TB cleaner and it seems to have helped with the stalling part, but it still idles rougher than I'd like

Hmmm, any small vacuum leaks? The hoses are easy enough to check, but sometimes a leak in the brake booster, timing case or valve cover can do it.

As it turned out, my increasingly poor idle was from a dying head gasket lol.

I was recently having a nasty idle, turns out my throttle cable had a little too much tension on it and was not letting the TPS sit in the idle position. I only found it because there was a TPS code and I was looking at how to pull it apart most easily in the process I was screwing around with the throttle cable and when I reset it the car idled perfect!

Probably not your problem but easy to check in a minute or two.
