WTB M44 pistons
« on: November 20, 2016, 11:44:58 PM »
Hi, I'm building an M42 to stuff into a 2002.  I want to bore it out to accept 85mm M44 pistons because I can't find any overbore pistons for the M42 except forged ones for $750 and OEM Mahles for $1100.  There aren't any complete M44 sets on eBay at the moment, just scrapyards trying to gouge people for a single piston + rod.  I don't need or want the rods, and I'm looking to spend about $200 + shipping at the most.  Anyone have a set laying around?

The deck height is lower on an M44 piston. You will not be able to use them with an M42 crank since it will drastically lower the compression ratio.
Pi is apparently the multiplier for your engine swap budget as well.

Yeah, the quench is off by about .043 inches.  We're going to have the machine shop zero deck the block and use a .040 MLS gasket, and the heads will get milled a bit as well..  I'm more worried about the quench height than compression because we're also considering adding an Eaton supercharger from a Mercedes C class.  Then just need to figure out the offset for the cam gears.  Maybe I should start a build thread...   :)
