O2 sensor ripped out .. Wiring help
« on: March 18, 2015, 10:33:38 AM »
Long story short I bought a 318is but I have no experience with them only the 2.8 inline six 328.

When I bought the guy said it only needed an o2 sensor, rough idle running rich etc. anyways I purchased a new sensor and went to install it however it didn't run better so i took it back out to investigate turns out the plug you screw the sensor into,( the one bolted to the side of the trans), had the wires cut. So basically I'm not sure how to rewire the oxygen sensor in. I can't find the other half of the wires tucked in the engine bay so I'm assuming I have to rewire it into the harness.

So any ideas. Or diagrams? I tried searching the forum but I couldn't find much that I could understands in terms of diagrams.

I'm a complete noob to the m42

It has four wires, just like the M50 pre-cat part. Two for the heater, two for the sensor. You can use many older 4-wire sensors to replace it. I've heard that the Ford V8 from the early 90s Econolines is a good choice.

Terminal 1: Yellow (DME pin 71)
Terminal 2: Black (DME pin 70)
Terminal 3: Brown (firewall grounding post)
Terminal 4: Grey/Violet (from O2 heater relay socket pin 87)
