E30 318is M42 Turbo 313Whp
« on: December 17, 2013, 07:14:09 AM »
After a years of studies and planning having the car with the engine installed but running N/A setup.
I finally decided to turbocharge it during the last 3 months.
Here is my setup for a daily drive car that I'm using now running 95 Octaine.

 1- M42 Stock internals 1.8L
2- Cometic MLS Head Gasket (0.12) + ARP HeadStuds
3- Highly ported and polished Head
4- Custom Made High Flow Header (42mm Internal Diameter)
5- Custom Made Short Runner Intake
6- 3 inch Butterfly (coming from VR6 Golf Engine)
7- Turbine (Precision 5431E) with the new MFS compressor wheel
8- TurboSmart Wastegate 38mm (with Downpipe screamer)
 9- Magnacore R100 (10mm Spark Wires)
 10- MegaSquirt 2 (Board Version 3 - Fuel & Spark)
11- 3 inch full straight Exhaust
 12- Spec Stage 3+ Clutch
13- RevShift Full race engine mounts
 14- Siemens Deka 630cc Injectors

Here is also a link for the first dyno day with the output I'm running now.
Planning to go for more boost soon as the car still have a potential for more Whp.

Could it be? 3 posts and you have nearly 200hp more than the rest of us?! Welcome. I have some skepticism, though, 15psi and 313whp doesn't seem possible with "stock" internals. Do you have bigger cams to go along with your massively ported head? bigger valves? Want more info!!
Pi is apparently the multiplier for your engine swap budget as well.

That does not sound out of the question at all. 300whp on stock internals with a .12" head gasket is perfectly reasonable.

Thanks for sharing!

But at 15psi? Could the engine even move enough air for that with stock valve sizes and lift/duration?  Legit question not trying to flame at all.

It all depends of course. Better cams would surely be helpful.

"Stock internals" usually means the bottom end and there has been a lot of people since the beginning of time saying the bottom end could not handle 300whp. I figured thats what you meant. The bottom end is completely capable IMO.

Psi is somewhat irrelevant in determining the power potential. Its a rough guide, but different compressors flow different amounts of air at the same pressure ratio. The more efficient the compressor the more CFM at the same pressure. CFM dictates power potential, not pressure. The OP is using a billet compressor wheel which tends to have more efficient aero so its withon the realm of possibility on a completely stock engine.

Of course, more details on the engine would be great!
