Hey everyone on my 91 318i while driving i hear a very very laugh noise always from the rear the whole time i am driving like its a bearing or something. i was thinking to my self i know i have a loud muffler but this loud rolling noise is even high in sound. it varies from the speed iam going. which is what made me say bearing.

Also there is this knocking noise with i first start up my car and move its coming from below and slightly behind the rear console. Its a hard knocking noise like something is loose or something. I really don't know. Any ideas on what these things maybe would be very very helpful thanks!

probably your guibo is completely shot, that would give you the noise right behind the tranny. as for the loud noise in the rear that varies with speed, is it a whining noise, or a growling noise. if its whining its a bearing(s), if growling its your diff.

when you check the guibo(flex disk between trans and driveshaft) also check the center support bearing. It's located in the middle of the driveshaft and has a bearing surrounded by rubber.
