Fender flare replacement???
« on: August 14, 2012, 10:41:06 AM »
Hi all, it's been awhile since I've posted on here, but I thought I could maybe get some insight on a car that I'm looking at possibly purchasing this weekend. It looks incredibly clean inside and out except that it looks like someone hacked off the rear fender lips (maybe for flares??). Honestly if it were any other car I'd probably just walk away, but this car seems too nice to pass up. Any thoughts on what it'd be like to get this fixed? Difficulty? Cost? Any input is greatly appreciated, and I realize it's a 325is, but I figured one of the upper members or maybe some of the body guys on here could help. Here's a link:

I'm not an "upper member" - but....

I would not buy that car.  For $3000 especially.  I'm guessing they cut out the fenders for clearance for wheels/tires and that they either tracked it, were planning on tracking it, or were going to lower it substantially, OR it had rust.  Additionally, The valve cover and intake are painted black with a rattlecan paintjob, the fog wiring is hanging out of the dash, and the cigarette lighter is as well.  The body appears to be in decent shape, though.  For $3000 I think you can do better.

I just got off the phone with the guy, he said fender flares were due to the previous owner having wider tires on it, he also said his bottom dollar is $2,500. I agree it's got some obvious issues but I'm gonna atleast go give it a look over in person and see if the mechanicals are decent. Thanks for the input.

Oh yeah - good idea!  I meant to, but then got busy with actual work - at work!

I'm selling my car. It is a 318is in MUCH MUCH better shape than this car for $4000 on this forum.

Here is the thread.  I put four updated pictures out there in that dropbox folder I link to - they are the ones named "August 2012 XXXXXXX.jpg".

I'm waiting to get more photos from my buddy that took a bunch.  He only send me these four new ones.

Anyway, it is for sale, and for $1000 more you get a much better car.  I have daily driven it since November (along with my civic - but admittedly mostly the BMW because it is more fun to drive) and have not had a single mechanical issue with it, other than oil in the plug holes and a fuel leak near the fuel filter.
