idle control direction

can any one tell me which way the arrow is to be pointing on the idle control valve as for i took it out to clean it and can remember which way it goes as for one side makes it shut off after a quick touch of the throttle and the other was makes a high rev then stabilize  or do two fast bounce revs then stabilize ..... i think i have it right with the arrow point towards the intake but i want to make sure...
