Removing Door Panel on 93 E36 4dr..
« on: May 10, 2011, 11:28:28 PM »
The question is How To?
I wanted to replace the Nylon Press Clips as the Door Panel  kept on popping off.
Well by prying the Edges back I managed to take out 3 or 4 broken ones on each front door and that did the Job.
.....However, I though I was going to pull off the whole door panel as I have so many times in the past on other vehicles..but no good.
I pulled off the Press Screw Covers behind the Door Pull and that seemed to do no good. I also looked at the Door Release because some manufactures place a Screw to fasten the Panel at that point but No.. I placed a Steel putty knife flat & Dull behind the Door Release Trim which seems to be a Press fit but could not budge it with moderate pressure.

Well I did accomplish what I wanted which was to resecure the Panel with New Nylon fasteners but could not remove the Panel.
 So, how is it done?

You need to remove the trim from around the door release handle by pushing it towards the front and popping it off. Came off fairly easily for me.

Also, using a thin flatheaded screw driver, pry off the cap over the window winder, you'll see what I mean if you look. Be careful that you don't scratch it, it's fairly easy to do according to my PO. I have the evidence to prove it. :|

After that's removed you'll be able to see a screw that needs to come out. You'll need a 1/8 hex key.

The door lock screws off. ;)

When you're removing the door panel, be careful of the wiring behind the door.

THanks for the response Jawdan!

I happened to have gotten a shop manual PDF since that    post and successfully removed and reinstalled the Door panel.. It went as you directed.

Followed that up with replacing the Back/Rear Window trim..
Then the In dash heater control unit..
Next the Front Struts...
.... This month I am looking at the Front Windshield and Trim and I will replace the B Pillar covers...

Also seems that the window on the Rear right door is no longer clamped to the Regulator trac as I can pull it out by hand. So another door panel must come off..
