M44 vs M42 Timing covers

Hey … I’ve got someone who wants to sell me a  M44 timing cover set upper and lower for the M42.  Is this some sort of upgrade or simply a cosmetic fix?

It's definitely an upgrade - the idler gear was replaced by a deflection guide.  It solved the cracked mounting boss and bearing troubles that the earlier design had.

I'm wondering if anyone has done the rest of the upgrade - the serpentine setup?
