Connecting my camshaft position sensor makes my engine die. Why?

I have been working on my M42 engine for some time now. I have replaced the head the sprockets, chain, and rails. Everything was built but when I went to turn it on it would not start. I tried disconnecting the crankshaft sensor and that did not fix the problem. I pluged it back in then unplugged the camshaft positioin sensor and the engine started.

I figured that the sensor had gone bad so I ordered a new one but when I connect it the engine still turns off.I still have the same problem.

I tried  dissconnecting everything and connecting it again then crank it but nothing. the car will start without the camshaft position sensor but I am sure it would run a lot smoother. I have no idea what to do. On the internet, everyone says all you have to do is just plug the new one in but it is not working that way.
 
I tried getting the car up past 45 then I stopped and connnected the wire and the engine shut off.

Any ideas on what could be going on? Is there something that I am missing?

I seem to recall that there are two wires that run in the same vicinity?
ON the 318 ti list someone talked about this a while back, that there were two identical connectors down there....

That's an odd one, haven't heardanything like your problem.  Did you check the Cam PS wiring harness for internal shorts?  The sensor has the proper 1200 ohms or so?

Put a multimeter to the CPS on the connector tip. I think it's on pin 1 and 2. It should read between 1150 and 1410 ohms. Also make sure you didn't inverse the Cam PS and the Crank Sensor. The Cam PS goes on top. The Crank PS goes on the bottom.

Did you do a stomp test?
