I broke part #15 where the wires meet the block

Can the wires just be grounded or do i have to replaces whole thing?

what do you mean? the purpose is to ground the block to the chassis, so whatever you have to do accomplish that...

so #15 is a ground? There is 2 wires in there so i didnt know. So its not a temp sensor

For sure that is not the temp sensor. The temp sensor is connected to the head. Only sensor connected to the block is the crank sensor. Looks like the part you highlighted. But there is no part number associated with the m42, at least from 90 in both USA and European models. Can you describe where it was plugged into exaclty or a picture of the broken wire. Does this diagram explain it a little better, part 11?

No, its not in that pic... its a 93 e36 btw. It just bolts to the block directly under the coolant pipe. Its the only wire on that doesnt have one of those push clip connectors. Its got to be a ground

Ok, not familiar with the e36. But when I search the e36 93 parts diagram, that part does show a part number. 12141734580 Ping sensor. Not cheap.

Thanks. That sucks. 75 on ebay Im going to try an find it used. I wonder if it triggers limp mode when grounded or open? Is there any way around buying this thing

Maybe you can repair it, and splice it. All depends on the damage.

That looks like a knock sensor to me. Don't the e36 m42's have the knock sensor? If it's broken you will have to replace it. Ping sensor/Knock sensor same thing.

Thats what I thought, but its a little different. Yeah, ping, knock, same thing.
