Author Topic: fitting e36 big bore throttle body (Read 3593 times)

Hi people just picked up a big bore threottle body for my e36 m42 when i looked at fitting it as i still have the heater plate fitted i cannot see a way to get to the bottom left securing nut (viewed end on) has anyone managed this or do i have to take the manifold off :confused:.
Any help /advice gladly received

Hi ok i managed to change the throttle body without stripping the manifold if anyone is interested how, here,s my verdict on changing an m42 throttle body,
As it sits you cannot get to the bottom right hand nut, to get to this remove the rubber pipe (that goes to the rocker cover) from the throttle body, then remove the two bolt that hold the semi-circular piece of steel to the front of the body. With this removed the heater unit (u shaped aluminium block with 2 pipes) can be slid forward and downward just enough to get to the nut.
From here on in its all plain sailing very straight forward, reassembly as they say is simply a reversal of the disassembly took me no longer than 40 minutes start to finish

excuse my ignorance, but are e36 m42 throttle bodies bigger than an e30 one. and will they fit straight on?

Hiya as far as i,m aware they are the same physically and internal bore size. I got hold of a throttle body that had been bored out by 3mm on the larger of the 2 flaps and had a new larger flap fitted.
The bigger bore has made the engine more responsive and smoother and it revs more freely not bad really the guy charges �120 exchange
