E36 M42 Oil Pan vs E30 M42
« on: July 21, 2010, 10:12:00 PM »
While in the process of replacing the lower oil pan gasket E30 318is, I noticed the upper oil pan is cracked pretty bad.

I sourced an oil pan off a E36 M42 locally (One piece - no upper or lower) will it mate to the motor in the E30 using updated gaskets and clear the e30 front subframe?

Intriguing minds want to know.

THANKS

-Kev

I believe there are clearance issues with it, I have a car that came with a block and head from an e36 and the only thing they swapped to put it in was the pan.

True....to put the E36 M42/M44 into an E30, one needs the upper and lower(i'm assuming both) parts of the E30 M42 or M40 pans.  Not sure if the pickup is different though.
