MM 205hp M42 engine?

Maybe I've missed something? In the Roundel magazine I received today there is an ad for Metric Mechanic on page 12. Shows a dyno graph for a 205 hp M42. Says engine prices from $6500 to $8500. Is this new news? I went to their website and there isn't much information (none on this engine). Just a video of a 318is being driven. At the bottom of the page (in the magazine ad) it says with MM Chip, MM larger injectors, cone filter, MM Pulse Chamber intake manifold, MM custom exhaust, running on 91 octane. Anyone?

Yeah, it is pretty beastly. I only wish we had an abandoned air field so that we can really drive it to the limit.

check out BF.c and search for the M42 project..... there are alot of guys using the E36 M42, dropping M50 pistons and an M47 crank ontop of a re-worked valve-train... Gizmo is keeping up with 328's on just a bottom end re-work, and the guy whos doin the head re-work as well as the bottom end is almost done, but he's looking at like 215hp.... it's a good post...

Hi everyone,
I finally found a machine shop that will do the work. PITA finding one down here!
All I need is the pistons (S52) and the M47 or M44 crank :rolleyes:  

The 318i will be down for some time but I have a back up ride (97 M3/4/5)  

If someone can post a link or step by step instructions on taking the engine out, tools required, what exactly has to be torn apart, etc., will be greatly appreciated. My intention is to keep the $ as low as possible and use it as a learning experience by doing as much work I can.  
This will be my first time taking an engine out. I'm a bit nervous but I feel confident I can do it.  I have an E30 Bentley manual and a Haynes E36 manual.
Once it is out, I'll be asking the forum lots of questions about pulling the engine apart. For instance, to remove the head, is it a simple loosening of studs/nuts and voile, its off? Or is does it involve intricate steps. These are some of the questions I will be asking.
In addition, I plan on upgrading the clutch and FW.

there's a complete engine R/R in the factory E30 reference manual (download, or click on the ee1394 link to see)

let me know if you need help navigating, the interface sux. But it's a decent overvew anyway.

Denis (dude8383)  is doing this now also, and has taken his head apart already.

also, the Chilton E30/E36 manual has much more detailed engine rebuild info than both the bentley and haynes put together. It also combines M50 S50 info, which you may need depending on what pistons you go with.

That motor is badass.

However, if you go to another shop and have it done, expect only 180-190hp, as Metric has a LOT of tricks and tuning to get the RPM's up (to 8k), if you neglect the higher rpm, you will lose power.

Revving the engine that high with anything remotely stock on the top end (and bottom for that matter), will lead to a quick death of the engine.

Their motor is worth the money.
It runs great and should be as reliable as stock.
