Just a few days ago i replaced my water pump/thermostat/belts..

Since those new items have gone in, afterward my engine sounds like its making metal contact internally..it seems to be coming from the front end of the engine..could i have messed up some timing components in the process? (even though the timing case cover never came off). Before realizing the old water pump had to be removed by screwing in bolts to pop it out, i had been hammering at it.. i know, dumb move. But now i am worried about whats really making that noise..? after the repairs i drove nearly 10 hours straight because i moved. Car drove great the whole time, and the sound remains to be the same now. any suggestions??

ps. the noise does not seem to get worse when the engine revs. I can only hear it at idle. but it could be tuned out by the exhaust/rpms i dunno...

thanks guys!

i have no idea. my old water pump sounded like that, like a damaged transmission, it had a plastic impeller. i bought the graf replacement. maybe yours was a poor re-manufacture? even though you shouldn't of hammered at the old one, you still have to hammer at the outside of the new one to get it within range of the bolt threads.

it could be your belts. bent pully or something
btw look into goodyear gatorback belts they're supposed to be quieter, and with a lifetime warranty
