She WOnt Hold an IDLE....ANY HELP!
« on: May 18, 2010, 01:29:26 PM »
Hello Gentlemen,

This is what is going on.....I swap a M42 into my 325ci.....it should be plug and play...as it starts up so it is....Yet(my windows wont go down) anywho....If i start her up and keep her @ 2 grand she runs, as soon as I let go the gas and let her idle she automaticly dies....she will not hold a idle at all.....I have replaced all Vacuum hoses and cleaned out her Idle Air Control....I feel deep down that it is someting with misfiring...Ok, so if the coil packs are not grounded strongly, will that play a role? also can someone help with a diagram with the ordering of the coil packs? does anyone have a picture of how the hoses suppose to go for all the vacuum hoses...I am just wanting to cover all aspects.....Can someone send or post a picture of a smooth running M42 engine bay so i can compare. Also when she dies when not giving her gas she blows air out the hose pipe on the intake...Again ANY and ALL help would be greatly appreciated, as I am in need to get my car running due to work.

bro, i'm about to have a heart attack just from reading what you wrote. relax.

if it runs better the higher you rev, its likely a vacuum leak but obviously not always. it doesn't take much. for example a while back i bought a brand new intake bellow. before that my car idle was perfect, the tachometer was glued. i replaced the bellow, my old one was in 'fine' condition, 1 crack the width of a hair almost impossible to notice. with the new bellow the car just died. fixing one vacuum leak caused another one further forward to play a bigger role. if you're using brand new parts most likely you plugged something in wrong. if not, inspect them thoroughly, use ducktape or rtv to cover cracks as temporary fix to narrow down the cause. use spray to find leaks. look up "mess under the intake" mod. try to meet up with a m42 owner in your area!

there was a thread about a pro way to find leaks, forgot what it was...
