cold air intake?

they are mainly for sound and looks. W/ a heat sheild you won't loose HP, and maybe gain 1-2hp if your old filter was dirty.
 
I could feel a difference in rev's, etc when I put mine on but my old filter was kinda dirty so take that for whatever.

mine did but I didn't have a clean factory one do base a difference on.  I had a kinda old and dirty one in.  I love my cone and would never go back.

You should have a heat sheild or you will suck in thicker air than the factory box,and make less power. My setup is really noticable, but it is only part of the big picture. I have aTMS chip, freelow supersprint exhaust, 19lb injectors, Hi performance coils and now I also have Magnacor race wires thanks to Aaron at euronation. I also perfomed a fan delete. An intake is a good start but it won't help if it can't pull in cool dense air, it won't do anything but make noise. My heat shild made a huge improvement! I also cut out the the triangle holes in the headlight grill to let more air in. I bought this shield off ebay for 70.00$ shipped, and I think it was the best mod I have for the money. After hard driving you can feel the difference by putting your hand on each side of the shield, hot on the motor side and cool on the filter side.

Mine did but only at higher revs >4000 rpm
At low revs it seems to dull throttle response if anything.
But this is all secondary to the real value of them....the sound at WOT puts a huge smile on my face and a lump in my pants :D

My throttle response was better also,more so in 3rd. I think its because the car is ramming in more air at that speed.

Air temperature is a variable in calculating hosepower and also in setting air/fuel mixtures. Get air into the motor from the coolest place possible. Racing sedans use the high pressure area at the base of the windshield. Admittedly,we're usually talking only a few degrees but if it's under the hood or right behind the radiator it can easily be 50+. When the track surface is 125*, it can be 25* cooler.

Link for relative horsepower calculator. you can play with temperature, altitude, barometric pressure, etc. Easy to see a 5 HP difference in an M42 going from 125 to 100 degrees. On our cars the computer adjusts for this stuff. With a carburetor you change jets. Relative humidity changes with tempurature. Maybe somebody here knows how to do this. Glad I don't live in the rockies.

Nice airboxes. gjuuu, I especially like your website and the posting of the patterns for the airbox. There doesn't seem to be any way to get cold air from above into an E30 without surgery to the hood or cowl.
