DME Difference Questions
« on: December 28, 2009, 06:42:50 PM »
Just had a quick question, or so I hope lol. I see that there are different DMEs and does one "make more power" than another or are they interchangeable and why are there so many different ones? Would a green one from a e36 work with a blue e30 both from the m42?

TIA
Jeff

PS Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I was not sure where to ask.

DME Difference Questions

I thought they were all the same, just with different chips.  If the Motronic version is the same you should just be able to swap chips to get them into our M42.  Chipping is the only way to make more power, and even the best chips only help a bit.

From this article it looks like the early 750/850 boxes will swap into the e30 with a chip.  IIRC they had two DME's per car, can you imagine the electrical nightmare those pigs are?!?!

The e36 DME has EWS though...even though it's an external box I don't know if that would swap over.
