What do you guys think?

Looks real good. Hey how much did that cost? I have been planning a new paint job. I have some dents on the drivers door and in the front and rear. I would like the original paint removed and a new coat put on. Did you remove your bumpers and such yourself? Also how long did the restoration take? It looks like you replaced the carpet as well. Any info would help. Thanks.

 Tony.

your car is starting to look pretty good.  please do not put neon lights under this car.

Downing Atlanta, as far as i know, doesnt make a kit for the e30 m42.  I think it may be due to the lack of knock sensors in our cars.  There are a few people that have built custom supercharger kits for their cars here on the forum.  (Appletree and Vision...)

What did you pay for the paint work?

and stay away from the fake BOV.  That is ridiculous.

I need to get pictures of it now. We have it on the road. Its in the test driving stage now. The CAT was brand new and already went bad. Blew up yesterday. We ordered a new one before it blew so the warranty will pay for it. We only had it sense the begging of the year.

Question an Answer

Q: How much was the paint Job
A: Because the paint job was a tradeoff I do not know the exact figure. Work will be traded out and or cash will be given. From what I understand the paint job could cost $2000 dollars. We did not do an ultra Fine Buff which would have been about 500$ more and would make the car shine.

A little about the paint job
Because the restoration was supposed to be done as cheap as possible. We told the paint company that they could let one of their new guys do it if they wanted. He still did an awesome job but it’s not show room. There are still minor problems like fish eyes and one little scratch I found in florescent lights.

Also They forgot to get the trunk lips which is not a big deal kind of pissed us off because we took off the gasket so they would paint it and make it shine. But you can’t see it unless you open the trunk so it’s not that big of a deal.

We did do as much as we could before sending it off. We did sand it ourselves (Not all the way down) and we did pull out the glass, side molding, and anything what would otherwise need to be taped up. We wanted a good paint job done right.

We repainted the grill and anything black ourselves. We used Matt Black paint color and look good. Because the rear spoiler was messed up we did not paint it red because it would show so we painted it black and looks awesome. No scratches really show. We did these ourselves to.

Also I forgot to mention that we took of the window cleaner nozzles to.

Q: How much did the carpet cost?
A: We did not replace the carpet. We just covered it up with carpet. If I'm not mistaken it’s called a carpet cover that you just put right on top. I think it cost $300. My stepdad told me he did it and spent my 300$ check I earned from him on it :P. Still looks good you just need to put mats down because you can rub through it.

Q: Did we remove the bumpers ourselves?
A: If I’m not mistaken I explained this above. Yes we did. Also I’m not 100% sure but the original front bumper was messed up so he replaced it. The paint shop just repainted it. I know the front quarter panel we ruined and we did replace that. We did take off the front bumper ourselves also.

Q: How long did the restoration take?
A: It took a year and a half. My stepdad does have a job and the car was not priority. He also has a 2002 caberlay that he has been working on for 15 years and all he has is a rolling body. So a project takes him a while.

Overall the project was about 100 or more hours. I am not sure because the car was supposed to be a graduation present and it’s about 5 months later and it’s just now drivable.

If you have anymore questions I will try to find them out.

Also I am not putting in neons or a fake BOV.

And remember we did a full restoration as cheap as possable. Remember that my stepdad can get parts at whole sale. So things will get more expesive. And we roped the three back windows in ourselves. The front was done professionally.

I have no Idea. It was done by a professional my stepdad knew. It’s actually supposed to stop the cracks in its tracks as well. Also it’s supposed to be smooth but because we wanted it done cheap we let him son who needed practice do it. It still looks good though
