Failed Smog
« on: September 14, 2009, 06:45:11 PM »
Hey Guys,

I passed everything except the NO (PPM) at 15mph, measured number was 1018 and max is 815. I didn't really get to warm up the car before getting the test done. Do you think I should do some spirited driving and retry? Any suggestions is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, get out on the freeway for 20 miles ish.
Get it nice and warmed up and retest!

Basic stuff to remember on any car going in for smog:

-Do an oil change. Check spark plugs.

-Get new gas!

-And go drive around on the freeway in 3rd or 4th gear for a while to get the cat warmed up. It can cool down pretty quick so have them run the test right after you get there.

Warm up, get on the freeway for a good 5-10 miles, get the revs up 3k+ steady for a bit.
Should be better then :)

Thank for the advice. Unfortunately, even after an oil change, air filter, and warmed her up really good, I still failed the NO 15mph test. I had to get a new cat.

Open your AFM and tweek it. I had the same problem. Probably running too rich because of defective AFM.
